ActiveCampaign vs Pipedrive: Which Should You Choose?

This is less a fight than a fork in the road. Pipedrive is the cleanest sales pipeline you can buy. ActiveCampaign is the deepest email automation you can buy for the money. The question is which of those two things your revenue depends on.

Quick answer

Pick Pipedrive if a team of reps works deals through stages every day: every seat gets a visual pipeline, activity reminders and a strong mobile app from $14 per user, and Growth at $39 adds sequences and automation. Pick ActiveCampaign if your revenue comes from email sequences and behaviour-triggered campaigns, because Plus at $49 a month for 1,000 contacts includes unlimited automation that Pipedrive only sells as a Campaigns add-on.

ActiveCampaign and Pipedrive get compared because both are the tool a small business picks when it wants something better than a spreadsheet and cheaper than Salesforce. They overlap on contact records, deals and automation, and stop overlapping almost immediately after that. Pipedrive is built around one screen: a board of deals moving left to right. ActiveCampaign is built around one canvas: a flowchart of what happens after someone clicks.

Pricing

Pipedrive charges per user per month, billed annually, with no seat minimum: five Growth seats are 5 × $39 = $195 a month. ActiveCampaign charges by contact count with users bundled in and $12 for each extra user: Pro at 1,000 contacts is $79 a month billed annually with 3 users included, so five users cost $79 + 2 × $12 = $103 a month.

Pipedrive prices from pipedrive.com, September 2026, billed annually; monthly billing is higher and Campaigns email marketing is a paid add-on at every tier. ActiveCampaign 1,000-contact prices from activecampaign.com (annual); larger tiers and monthly figures from third-party trackers, August 2026. Extra ActiveCampaign users $12 a month. Enhanced CRM add-ons (Pipelines about $68, Sales Engagement about $111 a month) are tracked, not published.

At one seat the two are almost level: $14 for Pipedrive Lite against $15 for ActiveCampaign Starter, and ActiveCampaign's $15 includes email marketing that Pipedrive charges extra for. The gap opens with headcount and closes with list size. Five reps on Pipedrive Lite pay $70 a month for five full pipelines; five people on ActiveCampaign Pro pay $103 and still need the Pipelines add-on for a comparable board. Turn it around: a business with 10,000 contacts and two people pays $239 a month on ActiveCampaign Plus for unlimited automation, while Pipedrive would charge $28 for two Lite seats plus an unpublished Campaigns fee and still not match the automation depth.

Compare like for like: the honest sales match-up is Pipedrive Growth ($39 per user, sequences and automation) against ActiveCampaign Pro plus the Sales Engagement add-on, and the honest marketing match-up is ActiveCampaign Plus against Pipedrive Growth plus Campaigns. In both cases the tool built for the job is cheaper. Price the tier you will be on in a year with our CRM cost breakdown.

Ease of use

Pipedrive scores a perfect 5.0. Everything points at one Kanban board where each deal card shows whether an activity is scheduled, overdue or missing, and every completed activity prompts the next one. In our testing we renamed stages, imported a spreadsheet, connected email and set up the mobile app in under an hour. The product resists over-configuration, which is why reps keep using it.

ActiveCampaign scores 3.9. Its automation canvas is the most readable we have used — triggers, waits, conditions and actions read like a flowchart — but the account around it is harder. Tags, lists, custom fields, scores and segments overlap, and without a naming scheme they sprawl. Setting up a domain, a form and a welcome series took an afternoon; feeling in control took a month. If your team has abandoned a complicated tool before, that difference matters more than any feature.

Features that matter

Six items decide this purchase.

  • Pipeline. Pipedrive: multiple pipelines, custom stages, deal rotting alerts, per-stage probability, on every tier. ActiveCampaign: basic deal records on every plan; multiple pipelines and deal-stage automation in the Pipelines add-on. Pipedrive wins clearly.
  • Marketing automation. ActiveCampaign: behaviour triggers from site and event tracking, unlimited actions from Plus, split-testing whole automations at Pro, hundreds of recipes. Pipedrive: a trigger-and-action builder from Growth aimed at pipeline hygiene, not campaigns. ActiveCampaign wins clearly.
  • Email. Pipedrive Growth adds two-way Gmail and Outlook sync, tracking, templates and sales sequences; marketing campaigns are the Campaigns add-on. ActiveCampaign includes campaigns, templates and conditional content from Plus; one-to-one rep sequences are the Sales Engagement add-on.
  • Lead capture and scoring. Pipedrive: LeadBooster (chatbot, live chat, web forms, prospector) from Premium ($64) or as an add-on; custom lead scoring at Premium. ActiveCampaign: forms on every plan, landing pages and lead scoring from Plus.
  • Reporting. Pipedrive Insights covers conversion by stage, cycle length and rep performance from Lite; forecasting at Growth. ActiveCampaign covers campaign and automation performance, attribution at Pro, and custom dashboards in a $159 add-on.
  • Mobile. Pipedrive's app mirrors the desktop pipeline and adds click-to-call; field reps use it from the car. ActiveCampaign's app is for checking contacts and deals, not for running the day.

Integrations

ActiveCampaign scores 4.6; Pipedrive scores 4.0. ActiveCampaign's directory lists hundreds of native connections with a strong ecommerce and events bias — Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Stripe, PayPal, Calendly, Typeform, Zoom, webinar platforms, Facebook Lead Ads and Google Ads — plus webhooks inside every automation. It also has a native Pipedrive integration, which is the reason many teams end up running both.

Pipedrive's marketplace is smaller but covers what a sales team needs: Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Slack, Zoom, Zapier, Mailchimp, QuickBooks, Xero, DocuSign and the major dialers, with a clean, well-documented API. What it lacks is a first-party marketing suite, so campaigns mean either the Campaigns add-on or a second product like ActiveCampaign.

Support

Pipedrive scores 4.5. 24/7 chat support is included from Lite, which is unusually generous at $14, with email support and a good knowledge base and video library. Responses in our experience were fast and specific; phone support is limited to higher tiers.

ActiveCampaign scores 4.0. Every paid plan gets email and chat support, a large help centre and free one-on-one onboarding sessions, with a dedicated account team at Enterprise. Response times were good, but complex automation questions were often answered with articles rather than a fix.

Who should pick ActiveCampaign

  • Businesses whose revenue comes from email sequences, launches, webinars or abandoned-cart flows
  • Teams of one to five where automations, not reps, do the follow-up
  • Ecommerce stores and course sellers that want store events to trigger campaigns
  • Anyone with a large list and a small team, where per-contact pricing beats per-seat
  • Companies already running a pipeline tool that want a nurture engine beside it

Who should pick Pipedrive

  • Sales teams where every rep needs a pipeline, reminders and a mobile app
  • Teams of five or more, where ActiveCampaign's per-user fee and add-ons stack up
  • Managers whose last CRM failed because nobody kept it updated
  • Businesses that sell by phone and meeting rather than by email campaign
  • Teams that want 24/7 chat support and predictable per-seat pricing from the first tier

Decision rule: count the people who will log in every day and the contacts you email every month. More than five daily users and fewer than 5,000 contacts: Pipedrive. Fewer than three daily users and more than 5,000 contacts: ActiveCampaign. In between, run both — five Pipedrive Lite seats plus ActiveCampaign Plus at 1,000 contacts is $119 a month, and each tool does the job it was built for.

Frequently asked questions

Is ActiveCampaign cheaper than Pipedrive?

For one person with a small list, yes: ActiveCampaign Starter is $15 a month for 1,000 contacts against Pipedrive Lite at $14 per user, so they are close, and ActiveCampaign includes email marketing. For a team, no: five Pipedrive Lite seats are $70 a month, while ActiveCampaign Pro with two extra users is $103 and still lacks a full pipeline without the Pipelines add-on.

Does Pipedrive do email marketing like ActiveCampaign?

Not in any tier. Pipedrive sells email marketing as a paid add-on called Campaigns, and its sales sequences arrive at Growth ($39 per user). ActiveCampaign includes campaigns, forms, site tracking and automations in every plan, with unlimited automation actions from Plus at $49 a month.

Is ActiveCampaign a good CRM for sales teams?

Only for very small ones. Plans include 1 to 5 users, extra users are $12 a month, and multiple pipelines and rep-facing sales engagement are Enhanced CRM add-ons whose prices are not published. Pipedrive gives every rep a visual pipeline, activity reminders and a strong mobile app from $14 per user. See our best CRM for small business guide for other sales-first options.

Can I use ActiveCampaign with Pipedrive?

Yes. ActiveCampaign has a native Pipedrive integration and both connect through Zapier, so a common setup is Pipedrive for the pipeline and ActiveCampaign for nurture. Five Pipedrive Lite seats plus ActiveCampaign Plus at 1,000 contacts costs $119 a month billed annually.

Which is easier to use, ActiveCampaign or Pipedrive?

Pipedrive, by a wide margin: it scores a perfect 5.0 for ease of use against ActiveCampaign's 3.9. Pipedrive is one pipeline board that a rep learns in an hour. ActiveCampaign's automation canvas is readable, but its tags, lists, fields and segments take weeks to master. For other options with strong automation, see our ActiveCampaign alternatives.

Conclusion

Pipedrive and ActiveCampaign are each the best small-business tool at one job and a weak substitute at the other. Pipedrive gets reps to log what happened and what is next; ActiveCampaign gets contacts to receive the right message without anyone pressing send. Buying one to do the other's job means paying for an add-on and getting a lesser version.

If a sales team is the engine, trial Pipedrive and budget for Growth. If the list is the engine, trial ActiveCampaign and budget for Plus. If both are true, the pair costs less than most single mid-tier plans. For the full field of options, see our guide to the best CRM software.
