Pick HubSpot if you want to start free, or if marketing email, forms and live chat need to sit on the same record as your deals. Pick Pipedrive if you are a sales-only team that wants the cleanest daily pipeline and will need automation and forecasting, because Growth at $39 per seat is less than half the price of HubSpot Professional at $90 plus a $1,500 onboarding fee.
| HubSpot CRM | Pipedrive | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price | Free, paid from $9/seat/mo | $14/user/mo (Lite) |
| Free plan | Yes | No (14-day trial) |
| Setup time | Hours | Hours (often faster for pure sales use) |
| Marketing tools built in | Native | None |
| Pipeline UX | Good | Best in class |
| Best for | Sales + marketing together | Sales-only teams wanting simplicity |
HubSpot and Pipedrive are the two CRMs people pick when they want to avoid a Salesforce-sized project. Both set up in an afternoon, both have excellent mobile apps, and both are pleasant to use. The difference is scope: HubSpot wants to be your whole customer platform, Pipedrive wants to be the one screen your sales team lives in.
That difference shows up in the price ladder more than in the feature list. Below we put verified September 2026 prices side by side at 1, 5 and 20 seats, then compare ease of use, the features that decide the purchase, integrations and support. Scores come from our HubSpot review (4.6) and Pipedrive review (4.3), scored with the same weighted rubric.
Pricing
Both vendors price per seat, per month, billed annually. Totals are simply per-seat price multiplied by seats: five seats on Pipedrive Growth is 5 × $39 = $195 a month, and five seats on HubSpot Professional is 5 × $90 = $450 a month plus a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee. Neither vendor lists a seat minimum in the pricing we verified. HubSpot Free is capped at 2 seats, so it has no 5- or 20-seat total.
| Tier | Per seat / mo | 1 seat | 5 seats | 20 seats | Terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot Free | $0 | $0 | — (2-seat cap) | — (2-seat cap) | No card, no expiry |
| HubSpot Starter | $9 | $9 | $45 | $180 | $15 if billed monthly |
| HubSpot Professional | $90 | $90 | $450 | $1,800 | + $1,500 onboarding once; $100 monthly |
| HubSpot Enterprise | $150 | $150 | $750 | $3,000 | + $3,500 onboarding once |
| Pipedrive Lite | $14 | $14 | $70 | $280 | Annual; 14-day trial |
| Pipedrive Growth | $39 | $39 | $195 | $780 | Annual; no onboarding fee |
| Pipedrive Premium | $64 | $64 | $320 | $1,280 | Annual; includes LeadBooster |
| Pipedrive Ultimate | $79 | $79 | $395 | $1,580 | Annual; highest limits |
The story flips depending on the row you compare. At the entry tier HubSpot is cheaper: 20 Starter seats are $180 a month against $280 for 20 Lite seats, and two people can use HubSpot for nothing. At the tier where a CRM becomes a sales engine — sequences, automation, forecasting — Pipedrive wins by a wide margin. Five Growth seats cost $2,340 in year one; five HubSpot Professional seats cost $450 × 12 + $1,500 = $6,900. At 20 seats the annual gap is $9,360 against $23,100.
Compare like for like: the honest match-up is Pipedrive Growth ($39) against HubSpot Professional ($90 plus $1,500 onboarding), not Lite against Starter. Pipedrive monthly billing costs more than the annual rates shown, and email marketing (Campaigns) is a paid add-on at every Pipedrive tier. HubSpot's onboarding fees are mandatory. Work out the tier you will be on in a year with our CRM cost breakdown.
Ease of use
Both products earn a perfect 5.0 for ease of use, and they earn it differently. Pipedrive is built around one Kanban board: each deal card shows whether an activity is scheduled, overdue or missing, and every time a rep completes an activity the product asks what happens next. In our testing we renamed stages, imported a spreadsheet, connected email and set up the mobile app in under an hour. The product also resists over-configuration — you cannot build a 40-field deal form by accident — which is why adoption stays high.
HubSpot is the easiest all-round CRM we have tested. A new account went from signup to imported contacts, a renamed pipeline, connected email and a booking page in under two hours with no documentation. It covers more ground than Pipedrive — chat, forms, marketing email, a shared inbox — so there are more screens, but the defaults are sensible and in-app guidance is good. If your reps have abandoned a "does everything" CRM before, Pipedrive's narrowness is a feature.
Features that matter
Strip the feature lists back to what decides a sales team's purchase and six items remain.
- Email sequences. Pipedrive: Growth ($39). HubSpot: Professional ($90). Sequences are the single most common reason HubSpot teams upgrade, and the ten-fold price jump from Starter is the reason many of them look at Pipedrive first.
- Automation builder. Pipedrive: Growth, trigger-and-action (deal moves to stage, create activity, send template, notify manager). HubSpot: simple automation at Starter; full branching workflows at Professional. HubSpot's workflows are deeper; Pipedrive's are easier.
- Forecasting. Pipedrive: forecast view at Growth, revenue forecasting with recurring revenue at Premium. HubSpot: revenue forecasting by rep, team and period at Professional.
- Marketing and inbound. HubSpot: live chat, chatbot builder, forms and a shared inbox on Free; campaigns via Marketing Hub on the same record. Pipedrive: LeadBooster (chatbot, live chat, web forms, prospector) included from Premium ($64) or as an add-on; email campaigns are a separate add-on.
- Reporting. Pipedrive Insights covers conversion by stage, cycle length and rep performance from Lite. HubSpot offers standard dashboards free and custom report building at Professional.
- Mobile. Both are strong. Pipedrive's app mirrors the desktop pipeline closely and adds click-to-call and caller ID on higher tiers; field reps use it from the car.
Running a small team?
Our small-business guide ranks six CRMs by what a team under 25 people actually needs — pricing verified this month.
Integrations
HubSpot scores 5.0 for integrations; Pipedrive scores 4.0. HubSpot's marketplace lists more than 2,000 integrations, and the ones small teams rely on — Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Slack, Zoom, QuickBooks, Stripe, Shopify, Zapier — are native and available on every tier including Free. Because HubSpot is so widely used, most other business tools ship a HubSpot connector.
Pipedrive's marketplace is smaller but covers what a sales team needs: Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Slack, Zoom, Zapier, Mailchimp, QuickBooks, Xero, DocuSign and the major dialers. The API is clean and well documented. What Pipedrive lacks is a first-party marketing or service suite, so anything beyond sales means a second product and an integration. For sales-only teams that is rarely a problem; for teams that expect to add marketing or support, it is the reason to choose HubSpot.
Support
Both score 4.5. Pipedrive is unusually generous at the entry price: 24/7 chat support is included from Lite, with email support and a good knowledge base and video library. In our experience responses were fast and specific. Phone support is limited to higher tiers.
HubSpot Free users get community and knowledge-base support only. Paid tiers add email and in-app chat, and phone support arrives at Professional. HubSpot Academy — free, well-produced courses on the product and on sales and marketing generally — is the best learning resource of any CRM we cover, and the partner agency network is large if you want hands-on help.
Who should pick HubSpot
- Teams that need email marketing, forms or lead nurturing alongside the sales pipeline
- Anyone who wants to start completely free before committing to a paid plan
- Businesses likely to add a marketing or service function within the next year
- Teams that value the largest integration marketplace and the deepest workflow builder at Professional
- Founders who want one customer record for sales, marketing and support from day one
Who should pick Pipedrive
- Sales-only teams with no near-term need for marketing automation
- Teams that will need sequences, automation and forecasting and want them at $39, not $90 plus onboarding
- Reps who work from the phone or the field and need a mobile app that mirrors the desktop
- Managers whose last CRM failed because nobody kept it updated
- Teams that want predictable per-seat pricing with no onboarding fees and 24/7 chat support from the first tier
Decision rule: ask one question — will marketing ever need to share this database? If yes, choose HubSpot and start free; moving a marketing tool into a CRM later is more painful than starting there. If no, and the pipeline is the business, choose Pipedrive and budget for Growth at $39 within a year. If you are two people and undecided, HubSpot Free costs nothing while you find out.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pipedrive cheaper than HubSpot?
It depends on the tier. At the entry level HubSpot is cheaper: free for 2 seats, then $9 per seat on Starter against Pipedrive Lite at $14. Once you need sequences, automation and forecasting, Pipedrive is far cheaper: Growth is $39 per seat with no onboarding fee, while HubSpot Professional is $90 per seat plus a one-time $1,500 fee.
Does Pipedrive have a free plan?
No. Pipedrive offers a 14-day free trial of the full product, after which the cheapest plan is Lite at $14 per user per month billed annually. HubSpot's free CRM has no expiry and supports 2 users and 1,000 contacts, which makes it the better choice for a two-person team that wants to pay nothing.
Can Pipedrive do email marketing?
Not as part of any tier. Pipedrive sells email marketing as a paid add-on called Campaigns, and its inbound toolkit, LeadBooster, is included from Premium at $64 or sold as an add-on below that. HubSpot includes forms, live chat and a chatbot on its free plan and offers full campaigns through Marketing Hub on the same contact record.
Which is easier to use, HubSpot or Pipedrive?
Both score a perfect 5.0 for ease of use in our rubric. Pipedrive is the faster of the two for a pure sales team: everything points at one pipeline board, and setup took under an hour in our testing. HubSpot is the easier all-round platform because it covers chat, forms and marketing email with sensible defaults, and setup took under two hours.
Which is better for a small sales team?
For a small team that only sells, Pipedrive. Lite at $14 gives four reps a pipeline, reminders and a strong mobile app for $56 a month, and Growth at $39 adds automation without an onboarding fee. For a small business where the same people handle marketing and sales, HubSpot Free or Starter at $9 per seat is the better fit.
Conclusion
HubSpot and Pipedrive are both easy to adopt and both fairly priced at the entry level. The choice is about scope. HubSpot is a customer platform with a very good free CRM at its centre; Pipedrive is the best pure sales pipeline we have tested, and it stays cheap at the tier where HubSpot gets expensive.
If marketing and sales will share data, start on HubSpot Free today and price Professional at your headcount before you depend on sequences. If your team sells and does nothing else, trial Pipedrive and budget for Growth. Either way, you can be working from a live pipeline this afternoon.
